Basic Strategies

Two is Better Than One
It's always best to build watchtowers in pairs. If a lone watchtower's base is attacked, that watchtower is helpless. However, with two towers in the area, the second watchtower is able to pick off warriors attacking the base of the first one.

Add More Peasant Huts
Multiple peasant huts decreases the time it takes for new peasants to generate and increases the amount of rice and water one can store. Always build a few peasant huts around your rice field. Just don't overdo it, as you can only store a maximum of 1000 water.

Location, Location, Location
Always build a peasant hut away from your main town, preferably near another rice field. If you find that your town is destroyed, you'll have a backup peasant hut ready to generate peasants and attempt to build a new town.

Variety is Good
Always have a variety of units within your war party. Building all 3rd-tier units or all of one type of unit is never a good idea. Variety is key in Battle Realms. You always want units that will counter whatever your opponent may have in his army.

Combat Techniques
Send units to attack early and often. Yin/Yang points are vital to the game. They allow you to purchase techniques which make your units more powerful. Also, the more Yin/Yang points you have, the more powerful your Zen Masters will be on the attack. Yin/Yang points can only be gained by battle. So, get out there and do some damage to your opponent!

Unveil the Spy!
Having trouble seeing those pesky, invisible Ninjas spying on your town? This tactic should help you sniff them out (if you're lacking monks). Go to a section of your town. Move your cursor to one corner of the screen, left-click and hold, and move the cursor down to the opposite corner. This will create a large selection box over the screen. You will be able to see the health and stamina bars of any units within this area while it is selected. Take a close look if you see any health and stamina bars floating in the air with no visible unit above it, more than likely you've just found yourself an invisible Ninja. Command any nearby units to attack him and get rid of your enemy's spying eye!

Gathering Resources for Allies It is possible to harvest rice and collect water for your allies. Send a peasant to your ally's town and begin harvesting rice or collecting water. When your peasant has enough resources and begins walking back to your base, select him and right-click on your ally's peasant hut. The peasant will return the resources to his hut! Once you do this, the peasant will automatically return the resources to your ally's hut every time he gathers rice or collects water.

Saving Your Healers
If you don't want your healing units (Channelers, Geisha, Fan Geisha) running into the thick of battle, don't group them with your attacking army. Instead, instruct each healer to guard a warrior in your army (hotkey G). Wherever your army moves, your healers will follow. Not only will they heal whichever warriors you instructed them to, but they'll also keep an eye on any other warriors that happen to be in the vicinity.

Optimizing Resource Gathering
Always place peasant huts close to resources. The less your peasants have to walk to get resources, the faster resources will accumulate.

Zen Masters

Zymeth Defense
Summon Zymeth, call a storm, then put Zymeth in a watchtower as base defense.

If you are in trouble and have just one tower, Zymeth is incredible, just dont put him in the tower!

Stick a channeler in the tower... Keep Zymeth close to it of course. The enemy with be trying to kill the hero of course and forget the tower for quite a while... When they try to kill Zymeth's towered healer, it takes a while coz she is in the tower! It takes a LOT of damage to kill Zymeth, plenty of time for the channeler to do her thing and keep your pet god alive. - Shatter

Koril
Teleport Koril to your enemy's rice field (it may be a good idea to scope the area out first with the use of a Ninja). Koril will make short work of any nearby peasants, slowing your opponent's harvesting. Also, any nearby enemies with projectile weapons will find it nearly impossible to hit Koril. However, be careful. You will need to find somewhere to rest Koril for a few seconds so he may regain enough stamina to teleport out again. If you find that Koril continually runs to attack nearby buildings and won't stay put in order to rest, simply press "N" to make him stand his ground and not move. It's a tricky strategy, but the bragging rights are enormous. Another option is to accompany Koril in the rice field with Death Sentry. That way, any melee units that swarm in to attack Koril will be hit by its effects.

Issyl and Soban Combo
Use leaf disciples to scout for enemy units, when you spot them, then prepare 3 golems from soban, haste the golems w/ issyl then ram them to the enemies, the explosive damage golems does, can critically weaken your enemies forces.

2 golems suicide can wipe all peasant in the rice fields. - wrzncarlo

Rushes

The New Annoying Lotus Rush?
The strategy required rushing the opponent with 4 unclean ones or any other basic unit, at the same time you should send two peasants to an unguarded area, not far from his base.Build a crypt of the Brothers. When your forces get decimated, send the brothers (you should get som yin from the attack) to constantly harrass him. While doing this continue to buid up your units, then attack. You should have an advantage over your opponent. - Sangko

Unclean Rush
Build two unclean ones as fast as possible early on in the game. Give each a peasant to snack on for the death sentry bg. Send them immediately near where you think your opponent's base is (make sure you wont be detected). Then make a couple of staff adepts, preferably 8. Move them to the position of your unclean ones, then attack the base. Make sure to release the 2 death sentries.
Note: be sure where the enemy base is, cuz once you choose the wrong place, its over.....
-- Nixx

Super Rush
1,2 build peasant hut then get rice
3 build peasant hut near water then gets water
4 helps 3 then get water
5,6,7 get rice
Total of 5 peasants on rice and 2 on water
8 builds forge then 9th helps; after this build forge again, just make sure all peasants who appeare from peasant hut help them build

Summary to build: Total of 3 Forge, 1 blade garden
Get 3 peasants from the rice field and train them and get 1 peasant from water and train it also then attack 8+ blade acolytes, 2+leaf disciple (This is unexpected) This won't work for professionals i think.... I'm not good in English! Dont Complain! - Richmond

Specific Tactics

Trouble With Enemy WatchTowers? Not Anymore..
Having trouble taking out enemy watchtowers that are packed closely together? Have your Brothers bless a couple of Staff Adepts with Dark Canopy and send them into the fray. This Battle Gear will protect your units from any projectile weapons that are fired upon them. However, make sure you activate it once you're close to the towers. The Staff Adept will become immobile, and you'll want him close enough to his allies to protect them while they hack away at the enemy towers.

Handling cannoneer problems
Some of you might find it hard to penetrate a cannoneer turler (meaning, a player who focuses on defense with cannoners layin mines) well, heres a pretty neat counter to this:

First: come up with a bunch of infested w/rebith, uncleans w/ death sentry, 2-4 staff adepts w/ dark canopy and some channelers.

When you're near his base, try to run down ur infested towards the entrance (assuming that it is packed w/ mines)while the rest of your army is at a stand point; most of your infested would probably die, but will be resurreted, this is the time to bring in your main force (when all the mines have been cleared out) pop in 2 death sentries and cover ur uncleans w/ the staff adepts dark canopy (a good counter for the cannoneers).

By this time, you've already penetrated his defense and desimated most of his units, all you need to do is clean up the garbage." - [[-P-I-N-]]=[[-E-A-D-]]

Geisha no more!
EVERYTHING in this game has a counter. NOTHING'S impossible to stop. You just have to research and learn from experience...

This is just a reiteration by the way. Anyway, DISEASED/DEATHWAIL is the answer to the Geishas. VERY UNDERESTIMATED. The perfect formula...resistant to cutting, and Deathwail drains their stamina so they can't heal. Just have a diseased eat a peasant and he gets that BG. Send in your army of diseased (3-4 with deathwail should be fine) and "wail" away. Go after them first if you can. I used it twice and the geishas stopped healing. After that, their razor fans did nothing to my diseased. I've seen a lot of Serpent players as of late use an "army" of geishas that can't be stopped because of their magic resistance and ability to heal. They're gonna have to find another strategy...our only hinderance is an effective way to allocate peasants for meals. Kinda hard to organize. - Unity Reign

Ally Tactics

Dual-Lotus Attack
This strategy is great for 2 players playing on the same team who are both the Lotus Clan. Keep your warriors together and make sure you each have Issyl in your war parties. When it comes to fighting time, one of you activates Issyl's Haste Battle Gear to speed up your warriors. Once the effect wears off, the other player activates his Issyl's Haste, increasing the time your warriors are sped up. Hasted fighting units are devastating to your opponent. However, don't try to use haste one on top of the other. The effect will not be compounded.

Dragon/Lotus Combo
If you're playing as the Lotus Clan and you're allied with someone who is the Dragon Clan, try this out. Send a few Blade Acolytes with Inner Strength to attack with your ally's Otomo. As they fight, keep an eye on your units' health. When you see them getting low, activate that unit's Inner Strength to regain health. The best part about this is while Otomo fights alongside them, his innate ability will continually replenish the stamina of the nearby Blade Acolytes. This will allow them to use Inner Strength over and over again.

General Tactics and Strategies

Death Sentry/Spreading Goo
Death Sentry is the Battle Gear that the Unclean One gets for eating a Peasant. Spreading Goo is the upgrade he gets from the Brothers. Death Sentry is a skull that the Unclean One hurls at the enemy. It floats in the air and does damage to all enemies who pass by it. Spreading Goo slows down all enemies who walk through it. With some skillful management, you can trap units in the Spreading Goo and then Death Sentry them. If used properly, this is another deadly combination.

Early game combo
Early at the game try to build up your blade acolytes/staff adepts then combo them with unclean ones... Let the unclean ones eat your peasants... then ATTACK! use the bone head things to your advantage..... - Karl

The Height Advantage
Some of the maps in Battle Realms have elevated ridges near the rice fields. Have an Unclean One eat one of your peasants to give him the Death Sentry Battle Gear. Then, move him to the ridge that overlooks your opponent's rice field. Activate the Battle Gear and toss the Death Sentry into the rice field. This will slow your opponent's resource gathering by either A) killing his peasants as they try to harvest or B) forcing your opponent to move his peasants away from the rice field for a moment while he uses a warrior to force-attack the Death Sentry to get rid of it. Plus, if your opponent has no idea that he is able to destroy it on his own, he may actually wait for it to disappear before resuming the harvesting process, and by that time, you'll have another Death Sentry ready to be thrown into his rice field once more.

Brothers/Rebirth
Have your Brothers bless a group of Infested Ones with Rebirth. Mount the Infested Ones on Shadow Steeds and send them off to war. When they engage in battle, the enemy will have to first get the steed out from under each of them before concentrating their full attack on the Infested Ones. Also, when these units are dismounted, their Rebirth Battle Gear will be ready. After killing them once, the enemy will have to kill them a second time after each of their Rebirth Battle Gears kick in. Your opponent will swear these warriors never die!

also

Have your Brothers bless a group of Infested Ones with Rebirth. Have the Brothers follow these units into battle. As they fight, keep an eye on your Infested Ones. When you see one of them use his Rebirth, have one of the Brothers bless him with Rebirth again! Your opponent will have to go after the Brothers before concentrating their efforts on any of the Infested Ones.

Teleport Trick
Build a watchtower inside of your town, then build a second watchtower relatively close to your opponent's town. It's a good idea to place this second tower where the enemy will not accidentally stumble upon it (such as the very edge of the map). You may also want to place a few units around it for protection. Select the watchtower in your town by left-clicking it, then set its waypoint to the second watchtower by right-clicking the second watchtower. Make sure this first watchtower is empty when setting the waypoint. Also, set a waypoint for the second tower a small distance away from it. When you send your warriors to attack your enemy's town, keep up your production of new warriors. If you find your attacking forces being depleted or completely wiped out send any new warriors you have in your town to the nearby watchtower. They will automatically move one by one from one tower to the next through teleportation and will all gather at the second watchtower's waypoint. This tactic cuts down your units' travel time amazingly, plus you won't be giving your opponent any time to build up new forces while your units walk across the map.

Lotus Buffet
When an unclean one eats a peasant, this unit consumes 2 peasants. So if for example 10 unclean one's get the bg they consume 20 peasants; And if together with several other units such as 6 infested ones, then this troop contains total 26 units. Well, if other clan's troops are up to this standard, what will happen? Just imagine 14 archers + 12 samurais (of course with the bg)vs 6 infested ones + 10 unclean ones with death sentry? Maybe the lotus will win, but i am sure the lotus will lost most of its troops, and cannot go on attack. But the key is how can other clan make full use of the population? We all know that the peasant creating speed will be lower if you have larger population. Then to the lotus, unclean one can eat a peasant as soon as he is created in order to keep a small population to keep the speed. But to other clans that's impossible(we suppose the player have the same rapidity in the game). Then the lotus player can build a powerful troop faster than his opponent if he uses another clan besides lotus. - iamzhh

Teleporting
An important Lotus skill is it's Teleport ability, which no other clan has. This gives us plenty of options like:

An Agile Defence - Teleporting I

A generally late game tactic, have Master Warlocks and Koril in one group. Bless the Master Warlocks with the teleport skill. Whenever any of your allies come under attack, teleport in the team to help defend, while the rest of your army slowly moves it to help. This can also be used offensively to teleport past the enemy Watchtowers and wreak havoc deep inside the enemy base.

A Quick Attack - Teleporting II

This tactic has been mentioned before on this page, but I feel that it necessary in this series.

Not many people know that you can teleport from tower to tower of the Lotus. What most do know is the pathetically low stamina of the Lotus. So when trying to walk them slowly across the map or running them and depleting their stamina is not a good idea, you can try to set up a tower deep inside their territory, someplace safe. Start teleporting by following these steps:

i) Keep both towers empty and place a rally from Tower 1 to Tower 2.
ii) Place a rally from Tower 2 to a place on the ground near it.
iii) Right click your group onto Tower 1.
iv) When all teleporting is done, place your standard defending unit on Tower 1 (rt-click); sending the last of the attack group onto Tower 2.
v) Empty tower 2 and commence the attack.

Stopping Koril - Teleporting III

A standard tactic when there is a big clash has Koril slipping into a town and killing Peasants. When his health is low, he teleports back home. Irritating! So how does one stop it?

In order of difficulty (Easy to most Difficult)

Wolf: 1 Brawler with a Zen Counter Punch. Bye Bye!
Serpent: A Bandit with a ready Paralysis Dart and Budo (You do keep him near the rice, don't ya) to smack him down.
Lotus: A Howling Infested one with backup. Howl his stamina away, then kill him.
Dragon: A Samurai. Backup of Kabuki with Flash Powder. Blind him, then kill him. Kazan can help, as he is too slow to go anywhere to attack.

We are trying to stop him from teleporting back home. Ie. Immobilizing him / Draining Stamina. The Wolf don't need to do that because of the Instant Counter Punch.

Attack Groupings

Group Battle Tactic
Create 4 Unclean Ones with Death Sentry, 1 Staff Adept with Whirling Staff, 1 Leaf Disciple with Scrye Leaves, 2 Channelers, and a whole bunch of Warlocks, and if you can, summon Issyl. Use the Scrye Leaves to scout out ahead of you. When you're about to engage the enemy, deploy all four Death Sentries. Get your Staff Adept in the middle of your forces and turn on the Whirling Staff. This will protect your forces from all missile fire. Use Issyl's Haste to nearly double your attack rate. Make sure your Channelers protect your Warlocks, and watch the destruction unfold.

Good Combination
Attack 6 infested ones w/Rebirth
2 Chanellers
3 leaf disciples
3 unclean ones for anti-base(1 unclean one has Death Sentry)
3 brothers

No failure against Cpu even once. Be Sure move fast or else your dead. I think this will also work against players. - Richmond

Late Game Finish
This is my Lotus Clan tactic to finish up an opponent. I build 35 Warlocks (all of them are fully healed) and if possible, I bless some of them using my brothers. Lythis will be fine because my Warlocks can burn the enemies structures. Sehk will also do good. My Warlocks will have an attack to use when they are surrounded. Then, I build 3-4 Channelers and mount them on Shadow Steeds. I also upgrade the Foul Nest from the Aviary so they can recover ravens quickly. Then, I summon Koril (my favorite), Issyl, Zymeth, a Ninja to scout the area first, Soban for his golems. (Note that the golems must stay in your base to gather resources.) Using Zymeth, I call a storm. Using Issyl, I speed up all my warriors to bring near the enemy base. Then after Issyl recovers stamina, I attack the base with full force. While they are attacking, I use Issyl's Haste again to speed up my warriors' attack rate. Then I Teleport Koril into their rice field. Now, sit back and watch the destruction! - killua soldrick

Forestry
Make a few infested, like 3 -6 early game along with an unclean and sehk on a map that's got a forest near an enemy base. Scout the area with a leaf disciple and lure the enemy back to the forest. As soon as they start coming in have ur melee enguage them and have sehk in the back, bless all the infested and keep them there. As a result, they'll never find sehk in the forest when he's shooting outside of ur melee and it's way too tempting to go in and wipe out the enemy force. No need to worry about towers either since they can't shoot what they can't see. U may not win but it sure as hell is funny seeing ranged attackers run to their deaths and gives u a lot of yin in the process. - Photino

Well thats a nice strat .... but it would be good to add atleast 2 more unclean ... so that if your lure out his army then defeat his army then it would be good to start destroying his base - kellogs02

Throw in ds and goo and you got yourself a very irritated opponent.... - dyeyk2000

i think one of the risks is when they find your brother .. i think that this strat will be screwed
Edit: so you must protect the brother at all costs - kellogs02

Using terrain is always good. Whether for concealment of your liabilities ie. sehk hiding in trees or retaining the higher ground and goo'ing the slope, you get more value than most unit upgrades can ever hope to do. Terrain advantages in BR are ALWAYS worth it. One of the reasons I love the game so much. Photino, you're the man! I hope the people reading this thread use it as you specified in early game whenever convenient. - Shatter

Second Chance
Have Diseased, Infested and Unclean Ones. Give the Diseased and Unclean the Rites of ascension. Give the Infested Rebirth from the Brothers. Viola, A Second Chance Army. Group the Diseased & Unclean in one group, Infested in another. Just watch the first group.

i) Just look down at the health bars.
ii) As soon as one hits red, activate his BG, and turn him into a warlock with 1/2 health.
iii) Reform the group (Ie. control-1). Very important, otherwise when you next press 1 he won't be in it.

Now you have a warlock instead of a dead unit. A Second Chance. This tactic works wonders for decimating almost any army. Also, when you use the rites, the units' Innate activates, blinding / poisoning / hurting them.

Evolution, and Current Tactics

Soon I added Channelers to this tactic. Don't add them to any group, They'll rush in and fight. We don't want that. Instead, have them Guard the Ones (The Shield Icon). They won't fight unless Melee attacked and keep healing those in their range. Cool. So my automatic rallies are:

Hut --> Blade--> Forge Aviary <-- Hut
         ^* * *
         |
Hut --> Yard <-- Forge <-- Hut

(* - Where the units end up)

So, this gives us 25% Diseased (Rites), 25% Infested, 25% Unclean (Rites) & 25% Channelers. You have to bless the Infested yourself, and when the brothers run out of stamina, send the Infested into the Yard for their Rites, and add them to Group 1. Let the brothers accompany them into battle.

This army stops plain Samurai / Ronin armies with ease (The Diseased slaughter 'em). Warlock armies last a bit, but die due to the Second Chance. The only serious threats are Second Chance Berserkers with Wolves. While they can get through the Berserkers easy, killing the Werewolves takes some time, Chances and deaths. This tactic kills the computer easily though. Just defend the first attack, turn defence into offence and keep getting re-enforcments from base.

Now, on the LAN where I play, very few people deviate from a uniform Tier 3 army, so I've never faced a mixed force Wolf or Lotus (Pure Warlocks / Master Warlocks or Pure Second Chance Berserkers). I've now started seeing mixed force Serpent armies - Cannoneers & Blood Bonded Ronins (to Gieshas at home); and mixed force Dragon armies - Sumos & Dragon skinned Samurai, but even then, the Second Chance makes it through.
